Billy Ray Cyrus first came to the attention of the American Listening public through a song that had been passed on by a couple of big name artists that didn't think they could make the song work for them. Not that these artists didn't try to make the song, 'Achy Breaky Heart' work through their style. They believed the work needed to make the song a hit wasn't in their skill set. But Billy Ray Cyrus took the song and made the decision to take the time to make the song a signature hit. But this didn't come easy. When many radio stations first heard Billy Ray's interpretation of the song 'Achy Breaky', they didn't add it to their playlists thinking it was just another song headed to the bargain bins of the country music record stores. Billy Ray and his management didn't see it that was, of course. BRC and his people decided to take their case straight to the people by going to the various country music clubs and getting their song played there. They also had a new dance choreographed to go with their song. Next thing you know, people at these clubs were asking the club DJs to play 'Achy Breaky'. From there, people began to call the radio stations asking the jocks to play 'Achy Breaky' on their way to work, the grocery, or wherever. Then came the 'Achy Breaky Workout' and every copycat idea imaginable that comes when people see the success of someone who has taken the time to make an idea work well. With the success of the song, not to mention the video, Billy Ray had his work cut out for him. The follow up hits to 'Achy Breaky' turned out to be a pretty good indication Billy Ray was a lot more than just singing a one hit wonder and disappearing into the country singles rack oblivion. This native of Flatwoods, Kentucky continued to make the charts his own with hits like ''Could've Been Me', which made #2 in 1992, and 'She's Not Cryin' Anymore' which hit #6 in 1992 as well. Though it's been anything but an easy climb to the top of the country music heap, Billy Ray has managed to come out with some innovative works like his fourth album 'Trail of Tears', which showed how much musical variety his repetoir contained, as well as how much is musical style had matured. The fans of country voted his single 'Trail of Tears' Single of the Year in the TNN/Music City News Awards. Of everything he's given the country listening public so far, we're pretty sure his best is yet to come...
