Janie Fricke is an artist who still sings from the heart every time she hits the stage. An Indiana farm girls who started out singing inspired by her musical parents. Janie's mother taught piano and her father played the guitar. With those kind of musical roots Janie decided to share her talents singing in church. As Janie grew so did her musical interests. Inspired by the work of Joan Baez, Judy Collins and Neil Diamond her influences changed though her musical interests remained country. Janie went to college in Memphis where she made some extra cash singing radio station call letter jingles. Janie made several post graduation stays in places like Dallas, Los Angeles and again in Memphis. But she made the move to Nashville in 1975. In Music City she became one of Nashville's most requested background and jingle singers. If you were in Nashville back then you may have heard Janie's voice on commercials for Coors, McDonald's, Ford, Pizza Hut, Red Lobster and United Airlines. While these companies were surely grateful for her melodious contributions to their products artists like Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Tanya Tucker and Ronnie Milsap were just as grateful for her background vocals. Working with Johnny Duncan brought her to the attention of Columbia Records' producer Billy Sherrill. Sherrill signed Janie to a deal with Columbia in 1977. She recorded number one hit duets with Johnny Duncan and Charlie Rich. Her first solo number one hit "Don't Worry 'Bout Me Baby" came in 1982. On the heels of that came another number one hit called "It Ainí' Easy Bein' Easy". Janie has produced 9 number one country hits including the duets. She was also the CMA's Female Vocalist of the Year in 1982 and 1983. Janie performed at Camp David for President Reagan in 1981 and was a regular on the Statler Brothers Show on the Nashville Network. Janie has released 23 albums throughout her career which have produced 36 hit singles. Her latest project, "The Bluegrass Sessions", contains ten of her hits plus two standards and a new tune entitled "Goodbye Broken Heart". The really cool thing about this CD is all her hits have the same familiar flair with a new bluegrass interpretation. The Bluegrass Sessions hits stores August 17, 2004.
