Susan Kay Bogguss started her musical career as most country music professionals did by listening to a variety of musical influences. At the tender age of five, Suzy began singing. She also took to playing the drums as a teenager. But this desire to make music never really took hold of her creative soul until she reached college. As an art major at Illinois State University, Suzy was exposed to a variety of creative influences coming from many different places. This is when she took up performing full time. From there, she hit the road for 5 years covering the nation in a camper singing her own special brand of music. In 1984, she recorded an album to market at her performances. Through her own brand of direct marketing (leaving the album at stars' homes), she found herself singing at a restaurant on Music Row in 1985. During this time, she also was writing. Writing in Nashville will have you rubbing shoulders with many like minded kindred spirits. One of the people she ran into during this time was her own kindred spirit, husband and songwriter Doug Crider. After singing for the summer of 1986 at Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, TN (a great jumping off spot for many country acts) she was seen and heard by the talent scouts from Capitol Nashville. These scouts from Capitol knew a good thing when they heard it and signed Suzy to a recording contract. Her 1989 debut album, 'Somewhere Between', was a moderate success by record industry standards. In 1991, Susy's third album, 'Aces', was a runaway smash producing such hits as 'Drive South', 'Outbound Plane' and 'Aces'. This album climbed to the lofty position of number two on the Billboard charts. Work like this helped her earn the CMA Horizon Award in 1992.
